On the VMs tab, select the VM to be modified.

The virtual machine must be powered off prior to attaching new disks.


Continue only after the status shows as OFF


On the Storage tab below the machine information, click the Attach disk button


Option 1 (Preferred):Empty disk image (*Disk resize must be performed using user or group admin view at this time)


In the Attach new disk dialog, select the “Empty Disk” image and click Attach


Change view from the user drop-down menu




Select the VM to manage from the instances tree and select the storage tab


Click the resize disk action


Use the slider or enter a value for the desired size and click Resize


Start the VM and use the guest OS tools to mount/format the new disk as desired



Option 2: Volatile disk (**VM Snapshots are currently not supported with this disk type) 


In the Attach new disk dialog, select Volatile disk


Enter the desired size and select a File system format.

  • raw: Thick provisioned disk format
  • qcow2: Thin provisioned disk format (preferred)


Click Attach


Verify the disk is attached


Start the VM and use the guest OS tools to mount/format the new disk as desired
